Leveraging Twitter for Your Resume Business

By Teena Rose

Are Resume Writers Succeeding With Twitter?

Studies have shown that resume writers get less than 15% of their combined sales from social media channels.

This includes Twitter.

15% is a rather small number when you factor the commitment needed to flesh out an active online presence that includes Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Increasing this percentage is certainly doable and can likely be performed by focusing just as much on your messaging as you do your marketing while on Twitter.

What does this mean exactly?

This means, don’t promote your wares too much — nor too little.

There needs to be some balance. Otherwise, you will alienate your network.

Size of Twitter’s Audience

As of the 3rd quarter of 2015, Twitter had 307 million monthly active users (MAU).

What does this mean to you?

This means that there are plenty of audiences for you to promote and generate sales for your resume writing business if you can connect and leverage the Twitter audience to your advantage.

Despite Nielsen Online reporting in 2009 that 60% of users STOP using Twitter JUST 30 DAYS AFTER JOINING, there are many who claim to be addicted to Twitter and claim to be unable to live without the service.

Twitter is the 4th largest social media service with 320 million users, yet pales in comparison to Facebook’s 1.3 billion users.

What is Twitter Being Used For?

1. Companies are using Twitter to advertise and promote job openings. On the flip side, recruiters are also leveraging Twitter to locate industry leaders they can “cherry pick” away from their current employers. So, in short, Twitter is proving to be a valuable talent recruitment tool.

2. Companies are using Twitter as a customer service tool. This is typically done by larger companies, such as Zappos and JetBlue, but a resume writing firm can also apply many of the same customer interaction strategies being used by larger companies.

3. Similar to Meetup, Twitter can be a tool used to remind folks of business gatherings and other scheduled or impromptu events.

4. Crowdsourcing is another use for Twitter. For example, let’s say you’re looking for the most used tools for conducting an online job search. You might think Monster and Indeed are the top choices, but after polling your Twitter followers, you might find other tools are preferred.

5. Twitter can be used to track about what people are talking about specific to their resumes, job searches, and so on. Listening to what people are talking about can be used a variety of ways; e.g. brainstorm blog topics.
