In this installment of the resume writing certifications series, we’re reviewing the Resume Writing Academy (RWA), which notes itself as the “World’s Premier Resume Training & Certification Organization.”
Founded by two resume writing legends with extensive credentials, Wendy S. Enelow and Louise M. Kursmark, the Resume Writing Academy (RWA) devotes its time mainly to training and certifying resume writers. In the beginning, the RWA trained resume writers at major job boards, such as TheLadders.
RWAs offerings have changed and expanded, likely due to the company’s change in ownership. The company was purchased and is currently managed by Marie Zimenoff.
For more information, contact Marie Zimenoff by simply visiting the RWA website.
The Resume Writing Academy offers the Academy Certified Resume Writer (ACRW) program. The resume writing program is intense with its combination of classroom (self-study/web-based), training assignments, independent learning projects, and examinations. In addition to resume and cover letter preparation, the program covers grammar, client positioning, and more.
For example, a training program/certification through the RWA might look like this:
The first section includes teleseminars, along with weekly homework assignments.
The second section includes independent learning programs broken down into bi-weekly custom projects.
Students must earn an A or B for each assignment; a lower grade requires the assignment to be redone and resubmitted.
At the end of the 11-week program, students with passing grades earn the Academy Certified Resume Writer (ACRW) credential plus 36 continuing education credits (CEUs).
From the RWA website: “Graduating from the Resume Writing Academy is a true professional accomplishment. The program is tough, the grading is tougher and the expectations of your trainers are very high.” With this admission, the ACRW may not be suitable for aspiring, new, or less experienced resume writers. The credential may be better suited for those with a fair amount of resume writing experience before investing?
Pricing
As might be expected for a program billing itself as the most extensive resume writing and credentialing program, the price is higher than any others.
Registration for the Resume Writing Academy ACRW certification is priced at $1,895 and includes training sessions, course materials, audio recordings, and more.
The price tag could be a deterrent for many seeking the ACRW, yet could help weed out individuals who lack seriousness about the resume writing industry.
RWA offers additional continuing education and on-demand classes, which often range in price from $99 to $199. You’ll find those over at the CareerThoughtLeaders website.
For example, there is the Entrepreneurial Excellence Training priced @ $499 for a 4-part program that covers many of the topics you’d be interested in when marketing and promoting your resume writing business, such as pricing your services, customer relationship management (CRM), and business procedures/best practices.
There is also a library of e-summits priced @ $69 for individual instructions with an affordable bundle price of $429 for 15+ e-summits.
