Module 8 – Bettering Your Recommendation Processes
LinkedIn recommendations can be one of your biggest sales lubricators.
Sales and marketing professionals have known about the power of recommendations for decades. That’s why when you visit websites, you find client testimonials.
For profile writers, LinkedIn recommendations “lubricate the path” so the prospect moves towards the BUY BUTTON with greater ease. That’s why collecting customer reviews is so important to a growing business like yours.
In this module, we’re providing you with strategies for automating your recommendation process.
Additionally, we’re providing you with a downloadable resource that you can give clients to help boost the quality of the recommendations you get.
1. RECAP
We know you can’t do everything, so we’ve provided you with many LinkedIn downloads.
In the last module, you received these new resources:
- Checklist for Writing Client LinkedIn Projects (perfect resource for speeding project management)
- Daily LinkedIn Routine For Continued Success (routine that ensures you/your clients make daily LI progress)
- LinkedIn Closeout Document (added resource to give your clients AFTER completing their profiles)
We also reminded you of the other downloadable resources you’ve received throughout this course, including:
- LinkedIn Headline Formula
- 10 LinkedIn Headline Examples
- LinkedIn Quick Guide to LI’s Settings & Privacy
We have ANOTHER DOWNLOAD for you today so you get more in-depth and valuable recommendations.
2. AUTOMATING YOUR RECOMMENDATION PROCESSES
The fastest way to rack up large numbers of LinkedIn recommendations is by using a system.
Unfortunately, there aren’t auto tools to help with recommendations that we’re aware of.
The best way to automate your recommendations is to leverage automation within your CRM and/or e-commerce system.
You have the choice of 3 solutions:
1. MANUAL
Get into the habit of manually connecting with clients through LinkedIn, either at the start of the relationship (this is best) or the tail end – OR BEYOND, which I’ll talk about at a later time in this program.
You MUST stay connected with your clients.
An effective way of building a strong repeat and referral client base is to connect with your clients over multiple channels (e.g., email, phone, text, and LinkedIn).
Once connected and completed with the client project, send a LinkedIn recommendation request.
You have two choices at this point.
Allow the client to conceptualize and write their recommendation content. This is perfectly fine.
Yet, if you want to get much better recommendations from clients, feeding them a bit of recommendation content deepens and improves the quality of the recommendations you receive.
LinkedIn provides its bit of stock content when you click the “request a recommendation” link:
Hi [name], would you write me a recommendation, please?
This quick bit of text gets the job done.
LinkedIn gives you 3,000 characters for a personalized message. Why not use it?
Here’s a great template you can use to beef up your ask:
Hi [name], thanks again for working with me. Being a growing business, would you write a recommendation for me? I’ve put together a list of stock content to make writing the recommendation easier. You can access that here [link to recommendation content templates that you’ve saved with your logo and name].
2. SEMI-AUTOMATED
A CRM can automate many aspects of your business.
The CRM can’t automate the complete recommendation process, yet it can remind you when it’s time to ask for a recommendation.
This can be accomplished by setting up an admin email or task that pings you X number of days after a purchase has been made. Set the notifications to go to your virtual assistant if you have one.
3. SEMI-AUTOMATED / WORKAROUND
If you don’t have a CRM or some other tool that has email or task functions, look at the functions of your shopping cart.
Your e-commerce system may not be able to handle a tickler reminder system. Yet, if you can connect your cart to something else, such as IFTTT.com, then you’re in business!
Take a look at the integrations your shopping cart offers to see what’s available and what will work for you.
LinkedIn recommendations don’t need to “live” on that site only.
Instead, create graphics of the recommendations and use those in your website and marketing material.

MORE RESULTS-DRIVEN RECOMMENDATIONS
The best recommendations are those that mention SPECIFIC RESULTS, which is why we hinted above how WAITING UNTIL LATER, maybe 30, 60, or 90 days to ask for a recommendation can be beneficial.
Letting time pass gives clients time to get more results (e.g., job interviews and offers) before writing a LinkedIn recommendation.
Thankfully, putting a recommendation system in place takes maybe an hour, with the benefits lasting years.
It’s time well spent because the ROI on the ACTIONS YOU TAKE TODAY can subsequently SECURE NEW CLIENTS with less effort later.
That’s cool, right?
