I’ve read many internet marketing and social media resources — some great, some not so much. There have been a few gems that I now read (almost) religiously. Anytime I consider a marketing or social media resource, I consider several key factors before opting to make it a long-time “gun” in my arsenal. Initially, I consider the source’s cutting-edge approaches to guerrilla marketing, social media, internet marketing strategies, search engine optimization, marketing research, and so on. Basically, I seek out resources that aren’t generic and avoid regurgitating marketing strategies for online businesses that are outdated or tend to fall flat on performance.

Here are several resources to help you broaden your social media activities and your internet marketing strategies:

1.  Conversion-Rate-Experts.com/blog; this is one of my more recent follows, which offers in-depth articles on how to improve conversion rates with prospects and customers.  An article that led me to the site was titled “15 tools that reveal why people abandon your website.” Great stuff!

2. JimsMarketingBlog.com; less of a how-to resource, and more of a philosophical tool to provide a deeper understanding of yourself, your business, and the world around you. One of his most recent posts I found exceptional was “The 12 habits of highly effective business owners!”

3. MarketingExperiments.com; offers informative webinars that will deepen your understanding of writing online/sales copy that gets the job done, complete with before and after “treatments” so you can better understand what works, what doesn’t, and why.

4. HighRankings.com; great resource to acclimate you to more in-depth marketing strategies, search engine optimization, and using internet marketing techniques that actually work. Jill has such a straightforward writing style. I read each of her newsletters from top to bottom. What I particularly like about her more recent publications is the inclusion of the Twitter Q&A section, where she posts a question to her Twitter followers and they respond with their individual advice in 140 characters or less.

5. Website Magazine (available online and in print); this is a print magazine that I read quarterly — packed full of strategies for building your resume business; i.e. video web marketing, display formats for advertisers, testing and analytics, optimizing the social media experience, identifying the best internet marketing strategies, ideal Google product extensions, using content delivery systems, principles of design, mobile marketing, e-commerce software comparisons, and so on. The publisher makes you jump through a few hoops to get the free subscription, but I believe it’s well worth the effort. To get the free print subscription, select SUBSCRIBE (at top navigation), then SUBSCRIBE NOW – NOT YET A SUBSCRIBER, then select the STANDARD SUBSCRIPTION at the base of the page. Once on the sign-up page, select “YES! I want to receive a FREE subscription to …” and “Print via Postal Mail (U.S. and Canada: FREE)”

6. ProBlogger.net – Darren Rowse certainly delivers great value with an extensive blog packed with how-to articles and videos on just about anything having to do with starting, building, and profiting from a blog. His Aussie accent is great on the ears too! =]

Happy learning!!!
